This web site is dedicated to Janice Sandler Shapiro, who was: my Mother, artist, student of her uncle Eddie Staloff and John Sloan, and wife of my Father Harry L. Shapiro. She took me often to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and other museums in New York City from the time I was a small child exposing me to not only her art but also many others from whom I learned about light and structure and color and art. She encouraged me in my art with a camera and perhaps because we shared a vision defect there was clear empathy. She continued painting in many mediums, until her death in 1962, showing me by example how to live and never give up your art. |
